Candidates take political test

Close to one million people have taken part in the CBC Political Vote Compass, including three of the four Halifax MP candidates. Launched Saturday March 26, the CBC Vote Compass was developed by a team of political researchers from the University of Toronto. After you answer 30 questions on a five-point scale, the Vote Compass lets you know which party you align with most.

We took the Vote Compass to the candidates to find out where they really stand – and if that aligns with their party’s stance.

Michael Dewar, the Green candidate, tested as Green. Liberal candidate Stan Kutcher’s results ended up being Liberal, but surprisingly, so did those of Conservative candidate George Nikolaou.

NDP candidate Megan Leslie declined to take part in the Vote Compass. “I’m not comfortable ranking such critical issues with words like very or somewhat,” she says.
